, Archie Manning, born in 1949, is an American celebrity whose initial fame was as a star quarterback for Mississippi State Football Jersey the University of Mississippi (commonly called Ole Miss) Rebels and later the New Orleans Saints of the NFL. In a losing effort Archie racked up 540 yards of offense (104 yards rushing and 436 yards passing) in front of a national television audience. Through the 2009 football season the high water mark that Archie established for total yards by one player still sits atop the Southeastern Conference (SEC) record books for the most yards put up by a single player in one game.
The performances that Archie posted as a college student athlete earned him the distinction of twice being named an All-SEC quarterback and eventually upon his departure from Oxford, Mississippi the number 18 jersey that he wore as a quarterback was retired. Archie Manning was a two time Heisman Trophy finalist despite being on a team that did not perform well in terms of wins and losses with a cumulative record of 15-7 during his two years at the helm. The Heisman Trophy is given out annually to the top college football player and is considered the most coveted award in the sport, simply being nominated as a finalist is a great honor.
In 1989 Archie Manning was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Today the memory of Archie is still remembered on the Oxford, Mississippi campus some 40 years after his playing career there ended.
